PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - On Wednesday, December 3, members of the
Holy Family University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
visited with residents of the Immaculate Mary Home, a nursing home
located in Northeast Philadelphia.
During the afternoon, members of the women's basketball and women's
tennis teams helped the residents decorate Christmas trees on the
third floor of the facility. All of the student-athletes sang
Christmas songs with residents and helped served them cookies and
eggnog or hot chocolate.
In the evening, student-athletes from the women's volleyball,
soccer and cross-country/track teams came out to celebrate with
those who have December birthdays. The student-athletes escorted
the residents to their seats, talked with them and joined in
singing "Happy Birthday".
"It felt so good to spend time at the home," said SAAC member and
women's tennis player Shakir Willett. "I felt that
the residents enjoyed our company more than any gift. I'm glad that
I had the opportunity to make them smile. My day was brightened
when I saw how happy we made the residents."
