USP MEN AND NYACK WOMEN GARNER 2008-09 CACC TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS

WILMINGTON'S HOLLIDAY AND AVIOLA SELECTED IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DRAFT
NEW CASTLE, DE - Wilmington University baseball standouts Cody Holliday (Havre de Graces HS/Havre de Grace, MD) and Phil Aviola (St. Mark’s HS/Newark, DE) have been selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. Holliday was selected by the New York Mets in the 18th round (554th overall) on Wednesday, June 10, while Aviola was tabbed in the 35th round (1,067th overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies.

CALDWELL, N.J. - Former Caldwell College standout Chris Chiarappa is continuing his baseball career at the professional level and has signed with the New Jersey Jackals for the 2009 season. Chiarappa, who graduated from Caldwell College in 2008 after a stellar career as the Cougars' catcher, made his debut with the Jackals on Saturday, May 30 against the American Defenders of New Hampshire. He collected his first professional hit in the game as the Jackals defeated the Americans, 10-6 in Nashua, N.H.

SYRACUSE, NY - The Georgian Court University softball team fell to Le Moyne College Sunday in a game continued from Saturday, 4-0, in the championship game of the NCAA East Super Regional. The game was suspended in the fifth inning on Saturday due to inclement weather. Le Moyne has earned a spot in the Division II Women's World Series with the victory.

NEW HAVEN, CT – Dominican College and Wilmington University are both 1-1 at the NCAA East Region Baseball Tournament after the second day of action at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H. NEW HAVEN, CT – The Georgian Court University softball team defeated The University of New Haven, 5-3, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Softball East-2 Regional Championship round. The Lions will move on to face Le Moyne College in next weekend’s Super Regional, with the winner advancing to the 2009 Division II Women’s College World Series. WILMINGTON, DE – Wilmington University clinched the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament Championship Saturday at Frawley Stadium with a 5-4 victory over top-seeded Dominican College. The Wildcats, who were the No. 3 seed for the tournament, have earned the CACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. Dominican, which entered the week as the top-ranked team in the region, will await an at-large bid to the regional. The field will be announced Sunday night.

LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 2, 2009) – Host Georgian Court University captured the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Championship Saturday afternoon with their 2-0 shutout of the defending champion Caldwell College Cougars. The fourth-seeded Lions finished the tournament undefeated and will advance to NCAA Regional play as the automatic qualifier from the CACC with a 36-15 record. Caldwell leaves Lakewood with a 35-16-2 record and will await an at large bid to continue in post season play.

PHILADELPHIA - Division II completed its third Community-Engagement/Game-Environment Workshop on Thursday, with about about 60 administrators representing every Division II conference participating. NEW HAVEN, CT – Seniors Omari Knox of Bloomfield College and Manny Perez of Caldwell College have been selected to play in the 2009 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/NCAA Division II All-Star game, the NCAA announced. The duo are two of 20 players representing all eight regions to be invited to play in the game, which will be played on Friday, Mar. 27 in Springfield, Mass., as a part of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament. The NCAA Division II national championship will be played the next day.

POST TO ADD WOMEN'S LACROSSE IN 2009-10
WATERBURY, CT - Post University has added Women’s Lacrosse to its competitive Division II sports program for the 2009-2010 school year. Jill Kowalik has been named head coach. When added to the new Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams announced in November, this will be Post’s third new athletic program this year.

NEW HAVEN, CT – The Holy Family University women and Philadelphia University men both fell on Saturday at their respective NCAA Division II East Region basketball tournaments to conclude their stellar seasons. The No. 2 and tournament host Holy Family lost to third seed, Stonehill, in the women’s semi-finals, 72-61. Philadelphia, the No. 8 seed in the men’s event, fell to top seed and host, C.W. Post, 73-51 in first round action.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Holy Family University women’s basketball head coach Mike McLaughlin is now the fastest coach in the history of NCAA women’s basketball to 400 career wins after the Tigers defeated the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP), 64-47, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday night at Bobby Morgan Arena. NEW HAVEN, CT – The Georgian Court University and Caldwell College softball teams are ranked according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Preseason Poll, which was released on January 28. The Lions were picked 17th in the poll and the Cougars were tabbed 24th. HILLSDALE, MI - Georgian Court University volleyball standout Angie Casado, the three-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year, has been selected to the Daktronics Division II All-America third team following a vote by sports information directors at NCAA Division II institutions. WEST HAVEN, CT - A day after winning its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, the season came to an abrupt end for the Georgian Court University volleyball squad as the Lions fell to top-seeded University of New Haven, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-13). The Lady Rams scored 47 points in unseating 2006 and 2007 champion, Georgian Court University (61). The Silly Olympics, which helped raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was the brainchild of the CACC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). ORANGEBURG, NY--The Dominican College Athletic Department has announced the unveiling of the first official athletic department logo. Dominican College has never had an official athletics logo. In the past, a single black Charger horse had been used, but no official logo was ever adopted. The new logo features the traditional black Charger horse on two hind legs with “Chargers” written in red and outlined in white, while “Dominican College” is written below that in white.

NEW HAVEN, CT--The Dominican College men’s athletic program and the Georgian Court University women’s program have each earned the 2007-08 Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup, in recognition of having the most successful athletic programs in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this year. Georgian Court, which won two CACC Tournament titles this season, also claimed the award last year. Dominican (9.90) won the men’s cup by a small margin over Caldwell College (9.70) and Philadelphia University (9.70), while Georgian Court (10.80) was followed closely by Holy Family University (10.625).

WILMINGTON, DE-Caldwell College sophomore outfielder Adric Saxon crushed a two-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Dominican College as the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament got underway today in Wilmington, DE. The No. 2 Cougars won the game, 6-5, while top seeded Philadelphia University won its game against No. 4 Felician College, 7-1. Felician was eliminated from the tournament later in the day with a loss to Dominican. Philadelphia and Caldwell will play at noon on Friday for the right to play in the championship round of the tournament.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.-The Caldwell College softball team withstood a late comeback attempt to defeat Georgian Court University, 9-6 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the C.W. Post Softball Complex. The victory advances the Cougars (34-20) through the winner's bracket to play top-seeded C.W. Post on Thursday, May 8.
