NEW HAVEN, CT--The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Council of Presidents has announced that Concordia College (N.Y.) has been awarded membership and will begin competition in the 2009-10 academic year. The CACC is an NCAA Division II Conference with members in five states.

"The conference members are very excited that Concordia College and its enthusiastic staff and student-athletes will be joining the CACC," said USP President and Chair of the CACC President's Council, Dr. Philip Gerbino. "We are fortunate to have a school of the caliber of Concordia join our ranks. Academic achievement and community service are important hallmarks of the CACC members.  Concordia possesses these and other similar institutional and student-athlete characteristics which we hold in high regard. On behalf of the CACC, I'd like to welcome Concordia College to the conference."

Concordia Director of Athletics, Ivan Marquez

Concordia is the third school to join the conference since 2005, bringing the CACC's membership to 14. Philadelphia University joined the conference for the 2005-06 academic year and Chestnut Hill College came aboard in the summer of 2007. With 14 members, the CACC is now the seventh-largest conference among the 22 NCAA Division II conferences across the nation.

Founded in 1881, Concordia College is a four-year, co-educational liberal arts college located in suburban Westchester County, New York. Concordia's 33-acre campus is set in the small, affluent village of Bronxville, which is one square mile in size and just 30 minutes from downtown New York City.

Concordia currently offers 11 intercollegiate athletic teams and each is also sponsored by the CACC, including men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball.  This fall, the Clippers begin their final year in the East Coast Conference, of which it is a founding member.

"I believe that joining the CACC will be a tremendous opportunity for our young student-athletes" said Ivan Marquez, Director of Athletics at Concordia. "Almost two-thirds of Concordia's students are enrolled in programs built around a solid liberal arts core leading to careers in business, education, and health-related sciences -- and that also seems to be in synch with the primary curricular offerings of the CACC schools. Concordia looks forward to a nice last year of competition in the ECC and will do everything possible to maintain and expand the collaboration of these two valuable NCAA Division II conferences in the Northeast."

"Concordia College is a great addition to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference," said CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.  "The college firmly believes in the guiding principles of the CACC: Academic Achievement, Community Involvement and Sportsmanship. The college is also an excellent fit in terms of enrollment level, sport-sponsorship and geographic location. Concordia has undergone an in-depth review of its entire intercollegiate program in the last year and is committed to the standards of the CACC. I am confident they will be a competitive member of the conference for many years."

"Having shared membership with Concordia in the former New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, I feel this is a terrific addition for the CACC," said Philadelphia University director of Athletics and President of the CACC Director's Council, Tom Shirley. "Ivan Marquez has done a great job shaping the program and I look forward to many years of competition with the Clippers. I think Concordia's NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament appearance this past spring speaks volumes to the quality of programs Concordia will bring to the CACC."

With the addition of Concordia, the CACC will boast 14 members in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania: Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Chestnut Hill College, Dominican College (N.Y.), Felician College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and Wilmington University (Del.).
