CONCORDIA (N.Y.) COLLEGE OFFICIALLY JOINS CACC
NEW HAVEN, CT (July 1, 2009) - Concordia (N.Y.) College became an official member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) as of July 1, 2009, according to an announcement made by Commissioner Dan Mara. Concordia becomes the 14th CACC institution after previously being a member of the East Coast Conference. The school was offered and accepted membership to the CACC in June of 2008.
Concordia, which is located in Bronxville, NY, offers 11 sports,
all of which are CACC-
sponsored. All 11 programs will be immediately eligible for CACC
and NCAA postseason play. The Clippers field six fall sports (men's
and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis
and volleyball), two winter sports (men's and women's basketball)
and three in the spring (baseball, softball and men's tennis).
The men's tennis team won the East Regional and reached the semi-finals of the NCAA Division II Tournament this past spring, representing the best showing of Concordia's 11 programs last year. The women's tennis team also won the region and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
"We are grateful and humbled to become part of one of the best run
conferences in the country," said Concordia Director of Athletics,
Ivan Marquez. "Concordia is fully committed to represent the
CACC with great honor and doing our share to bring us many, many
NCAA Championship appearances".
"Concordia College is a great addition to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference," said CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. "The college is committed to the guiding principles of the CACC: Academic Achievement, Community Involvement and Sportsmanship. Concordia is also an excellent fit in the areas of enrollment, sport-sponsorships and location. Concordia underwent an in-depth review of its entire intercollegiate program and has made a significant number of enhancements to meet the standards of the CACC. I am confident they will be a competitive member of the conference for many years."
A ceremony celebrating the addition of Concordia to the CACC is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 in Bronxville, in conjunction with a men's and women's soccer double-header against Goldey-Beacom College. More details will be announced at a later date.
