POST'S HUFFINE TO PLAY SUMMER BASEBALL FOR TORRINGTON TWISTERS

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Rising senior third baseman Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) will play summer ball for the Torrington Twisters of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). Huffine will make his NECBL debut this evening, as the Twisters travel to North Adams, Mass to face the North Adams SteepleCats.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Corey to be able to play against some of the best this country has to offer," Post Head Coach AJ McNamara said. "He is carrying the torch as the lone CACC representative and I can't think of any other player who is more perfect for this role in terms of talent, professionalism, enthusiasm, and attitude. I am so proud of him for being the ambassador for not only Post University, but for the entire conference as well."

In his first year with the Green and White this past season, Huffine garnered first-team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) honors. The third baseman led the conference with 63 hits and batted .333 with one home run and 24 runs batted in. Huffine also led the team with 12 doubles, 12 steals and 80 total bases.

"I think Corey will do a very good job there," McNamara added. "He's the perfect ?small-ball' player. He handles the bat well, doesn't strike out often, runs well, can hit for both average and power, and can bunt. When used right, he can be an exciting ballplayer, even at this caliber level."

Huffine also scored 35 runs, had 14 multi-hit games, five multi-RBI games and had an 11-game hitting streak from April 6-19.

Huffine batted .329 with 24 runs scored, 48 hits, eight doubles, a triple, 19 runs batted in, and 58 total bases this past season in 37 wood-bat games. The entire Division II Northeast Region switched to wood bats during the regular season. Post played 37 of its 50 games during the year with wood.

"I'm excited to see him play with some very notable players and even more excited that he's going to play against Team USA and some fierce international teams as well," McNamara said. "The competition and the overall experience will definitely get him better."

The NECBL features 12 teams from six states and was founded in 1993. The League attracts players attending U.S. colleges from all across the country. It is an NCAA and MLB sanctioned wood bat league, and is one of the most talented and competitive leagues in the country.

Post wrapped up one of the most successful seasons in school-history, recording a school-record 25 wins and finishing runner-up at the ECAC Division II Championship. The Eagles also finished the regular season on a tear, winning 10 of their last 11 games and 15-of-17 overall to earn a bid to the ECAC Tournament.

Torrington opens the home portion of its schedule on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. against the Newport Gulls. For more information on the NECBL and the Twisters please logon to the following websites, www.necbl.com and www.torringtontwisters.org.
