NEW HAVEN, CT - Adric Saxon of Caldwell College has earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, May 11. Caldwell right-handers Rober Casal and Eric Hines were named the Co-Pitchers of the Week, while Philadelphia University right-hander Jared Farbman was the choice for Rookie of the Week.

Saxon, a 6-1 sophomore outfielder from Coral Springs, FL, hit two game-winning home runs in three games at the CACC Tournament to lead the Cougars to the championship. He hit a walk-off, 10th-inning blast to beat Dominican on Thursday, then gave Caldwell a 1-0 lead with a homer in a 3-0 championship game victory over the Chargers on Sunday. He drove in five runs and scored three times en route to picking up Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades.

Casal, a 6-0 sophomore from Howard Beach, NY, and Hines, a 6-1 junior from Milltown, NJ, both hurled complete game, 3-hit shutouts at the CACC Tournament last week. Casal fanned seven in a 2-0 win over Philadelphia and Hines struck out 11 Dominican batters in the championship game victory.

Farbman, a 6-4 freshman from Philadelphia, PA, threw a complete game shutout against Felician in his first CACC Tournament appearance on Thursday. He allowed only five hits and fanned 10 batters.

Honorable Mention

Michael Mondesir, Dominican (Sr., RHP, 6-3, Jamaica, NY) - Earned a win over Felician at the CACC Tournament by going 8.0 innings and allowing two hits to go with nine strikeouts.

Tom Kahl, Dominican (Fr., RHP, 5-11, Bay Shore, NY) - Pitched a complete game against Philadelphia at the CACC Tournament and allowed only six hits and one run while fanning seven.

JungMin Lee, Philadelphia (Sr., 5-9, OF, Seoul, Korea) - Hit .416 in three CACC Tournament games with five runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars won three straight games this weekend to capture the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2004. Sophomore Adric Saxon hit two home runs and had five RBI to earn the tournament's MVP award. Saxon belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to beat Dominican, 6-5 in the first round on Thursday. Then in the final, he scored the first run of the game with a solo shot to left to help Caldwell top Dominican again, 3-0. But pitching was the story of the tournament, as the Cougars' three starters allowed just two runs over 25 2/3 innings (0.71 ERA) while striking out 28 batters and walking eight. Sophomore Robert Casal and junior Eric Hines pitched back-to-back three-hit shutouts in the semifinal and final, respectively, while junior Stephen Pfeil allowed two runs on five hits in 7 2/3 innings in Game 1. All three joined Saxon on the All-Tournament team, as did senior catcher Chris Chiarappa. The Cougars head to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament for the second straight year and the third time in five years.

Felician - Junior CF Vinnie DiBenedetti tied the CACC NCAA-era record for single-season triples with his 10th in his team's May 5 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. In the CACC's first year of full-time wood-bat use, Felician set a school record for team earned-run average (4.16). The Golden Falcons enjoyed the third winning season in the nine-year history of the program, including the second in the last three campaigns under current head coach Chris Langan. Freshman SS Hector Bello's CACC Rookie of the Year Award gives Felician three such honors in its 10 sports in 2007-08.

Philadelphia - The Rams finished the season 22-22, after being 2-12 through March. They went 20-10 in April and May and captured a share of the CACC regular-season title, their best performance since the 1999 team went 20-18 and competed in the NYCAC tournament. Philadelphia also was ranked seventh in the official NCAA Division II Northeast Region Rankings heading into last week's games. It was their maiden appearance in the poll.
