2008 Baseball Weekly Award Winners

March 3

Player of the Week: Adric Saxon, Caldwell (So., 6-1, OF, Coral Springs, FL) - Hit .450 with seven runs batted in, four runs scored and one home run in a 3-2 week. Collected three hits in two games, including a 3-for-4 effort against Molloy with one home run, six RBI and two doubles. He also notched three hits and drove in a run in a 4-3 win over Mercy.

Pitcher of the Week: B.J. Senna, Felician (Jr., 6-0, RHP, Wallingford, CT) - Did not allow an earned run in 5.0 innings of work in earning a victory over Dowling. He struck out five batters and gave up only four hits.

Rookie of the Week: Peter LaRocco, USP (Fr., 6-0, DH, Sewell, NJ) - Hit .500 with one home run, seven RBI and three runs scored in four games. Notched at least one hit and one RBI in all four games. He went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a home run in an 8-7 win over Gannon.

March 10

Player of the Week: Philip Maher, USP (Sr., 6-4, OF, Norristown, PA) - Hit .333 in six games with six runs batted in, two runs scored and four doubles. Collected at least one hit in all six games. Went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in a 4-3 win over Stonehill.

Pitcher of the Week: Nick Riker, Felician (Sr., 6-2, RHP, Highlands, NJ) - Allowed only two runs in 6.2 innings against Pace. He allowed seven hits and fanned two. He left the game with a 3-2 lead.

Rookie of the Week: Tim Summers, USP (Fr., 6-2, RHP, Monrovia, MD) - Picked up his second collegiate victory last week, throwing four perfect innings of relief in a comeback win over Stonehill.

March 17

Player of the Week: Mike Libretta, Felician (Jr., RHP, Staten Island, NY) - Hit .444 for the week with a .583 on-base percentage, along with five runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base. Went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base against Minnesota-Duluth. He also scored three times and went 1-for-2 vs. Nebraska-Omaha.

Pitcher of the Week: Robert Casal, Caldwell (So., RHP, Howard Beach, NY) - Earned a win against Queens College by allowing no earned runs and three hits, while fanning 11, in 6.0 innings of work.

Rookie of the Week: Dan Etherton, Chestnut Hill (Fr., OF, Princeton, NJ) - Hit .476 in seven games with four RBI, three runs scored, three doubles and four stolen bases. Collected two hits in three consecutive games, against PSU-Beaver and Mansfield.

March 24

Player of the Week: Alex Munoz, Bloomfield (Sr., CF, Perth Amboy, NJ) - Hit .571 in three games with one home run, six runs scored, two RBI and one stolen base last week. Also recorded a .667 on-base percentage. Scored two runs in each of the three games and homered in an 8-6 victory over Mercy.

Pitcher of the Week: B.J. Senna, Felician (Jr., RHP, Wallingford, CT) - Allowed only three hits (all singles) and no runs in 6.0 innings of work in a win over St. Michael's. He fanned eight batters.

Rookie of the Week: Tommy Walton, Chestnut Hill (Fr., 6-3, RHP, Levittown, PA) - Worked 7.0 innings against USP and allowed no earned runs and six hits while not walking a batter. He struck out 10 as Chestnut Hill won the game, 2-1.

March 31

Player of the Week: Cody Levins, Nyack (jR., 1b, 6-1, McKinney, TX) - Hit .706 (12-for-17) in four games with eight RBI, six runs scored and five doubles. Went 6-for-8 with five RBI, three doubles and two runs scored in a 14-inning, 7-6 win over USP. Also went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI in a double-header sweep of Dominican.

Pitcher of the Week: Brendan Wyman, Post (Jr., LHP, 6-0, Manchester, CT) - Hurled a 9-inning complete-game shutout against Caldwell and allowed only four hits and two walks while striking out six. He retired 16-of-17 batters at one point during the game.

Rookie of the Week: Sean Stimpfel, Bloomfield (Fr., LHP, Jackson, NJ) - Picked up two wins last week, one as a starter and one in relief. He combined to allow one run and eight hits in 10.1 innings of work against C.W. Post and AIC. Earned a complete game victory against C.W. Post after allowing seven hits and one run in 9.0 innings, while fanning four.

April 7

Player of the Week: Tommy Murphy, Caldwell (Sr., SS, 6-1, Monroe, NY) - Hit .455 with a .556 on-base percentage in helping Caldwell to a 6-1 week. Belted one home run, stole one base, scored five times and drove in two runs for the week. Went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game two of a double-header at Chestnut Hill. Also notched two hits in three straight games, against Nyack, Dominican and Chestnut Hill.

Pitcher of the Week: Stephen Pfeil, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, 6-2 Hampstead, NH) - Earned two complete game victories last week against Nyack and Post. He allowed only eight total hits and one earned run while fanning 19 batters in 14.0 innings of work. Threw a 7-inning one-hitter at Nyack with 11 strikeouts.

Rookie of the Week: Jonathan Ryan, Dominican (Fr., 6-0, INF, Troy, NY) - Hit .500 in four games with one home run, three RBI and two runs scored. He recorded a hit in all four games. Went 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and a home run in a victory over Bloomfield.

April 14

Player of the Week: Tyler Mentzer, Philadelphia (So., 2B, Gettysburg, PA) - Hit .577 (15-for-26) in a 6-2 week with a .686 on-base percentage, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. Hit two home runs, four doubles, and stole three bases. Mentzer collected multiple hits in five games, including three, 3-hit performances. He also had three, 3-RBI games.

Co-Pitchers of the Week: Jimmy Okoniewski, Wilmington (Sr., LHP, Wilmington, DE) and Kyle Noonan, Philadelphia (Jr., RHP, Morristown, NJ) - Okoniewski earned two victories last week, including a gem against Nyack as he fanned 16 batters and allowed only five hits and one run, while not walking a batter, in 9.0 innings of work. Noonan also had two wins and allowed one earned run and seven hits in 16.0 IP. He struck out 10 batters.

Rookie of the Week: Hector Bello, Felician (Fr., SS, Miami, FL) - Hit .458 (11-for-24) in seven games with one home run, four RBI, four runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases last week. He closed the week with three hits and two RBI against both Bloomfield and Post.

April 21

Player of the Week: Adric Saxon, Caldwell (So., OF, 6-1, a 6-1, Coral Springs, FL) - Hit .478 (11-for-23) with a .913 slugging percentage in a 5-1 week. He hit three home runs, drove in 11 runs and scored six times. He went 4-for-4 with two home runs, four runs and four RBI in the second game of a double-header against Wilmington. He also homered against C.W. Post and registered four multi-hit games.

Co-Pitchers of the Week: Albie Sangiuliano, Felician (Jr., RHP, Flemington, NJ) - Went 2-0 on the week and did not allow an earned run in 10.1 innings of work. He surrendered only seven hits, one unearned run and notched nine strikeouts.

Rookie of the Week: Mickey Zudonyi, Felician (Fr., 2B, Holmdel, NJ) - Hit .519 (14-for-27) in a 6-1 week with nine runs scored, nine RBI and three stolen bases. He also had one double and one triple. Went 4-for-6 with two runs and an RBI against USP. Recorded two hits in five of his seven games.

April 28

Player of the Week: Vinnie DiBenedetti, Felician (Jr., CF, Forked River, NJ) - Hit .500 in seven games with six RBI, four runs scored, three triples and one stolen base last week. Recorded multiple hits in five of the seven games, including two, 3-hit contests. He went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI in a win over Post. Also had three hits in a win over Bloomfield.

Pitcher of the Week: Michael Mondesir, Dominican (Sr., 6-3, RHP, Jamaica, NY) - Hurled a 1-hit shutout on the road against first-place Wilmington on Saturday. He fanned seven batters in the 5-0 victory.

Rookie of the Week: Jonathan Ryan, Dominican (Fr., IF, Troy, NY) - Hit .533 with eight RBI, three runs scored and a .579 on-base percentage in five games last week. He collected two hits in all three games against Wilmington and drove in three runs in each of the final two, both of which were victories.

May 5

Player of the Week: Vinnie DiBenedetti, Felician (Jr., CF, Forked River, NJ) - Hit .562 with a .938 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage in a 4-1 week. Drove in six runs, scored three times, hit three triples and collected at least one hit in all five games. Went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI in a win over Wilmington on Sunday.

Co-Pitchers of the Week: Michael Mondesir, Dominican (Sr., RHP, 6-3, Jamaica, NY) and Stephen Pfeil, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, 6-1, Hampstead, NH) - Mondesir threw a 7.0-inning two-hitter against USP. He struck out four batters. Pfeil fanned 10 batters and allowed only four hits in a 9.0-inning shutout victory over Bloomfield.

Rookie of the Week: Dan Etherton, Chestnut Hill (Fr., OF, 6-2, Princeton, NJ) - Hit .467 with three RBI, one run scored and three stolen bases in four games last week. He concluded the week with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI, one double and one stolen base at Post.

May 12

Player of the Week: Adric Saxon, Caldwell (So., OF, 6-1, Coral Springs, FL) - Hit two game-winning home runs in three games at the CACC Tournament to lead the Cougars to the championship. Hit a walk-off, 10th-inning blast to beat Dominican on Thursday, then gave Caldwell a 1-0 lead with a homer in a 3-0 championship game victory over the Chargers on Sunday. He drove in five runs and scored three times en route to picking up Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades.

Co-Pitchers of the Week: Robert Casal, Caldwell (So., RHP, 6-0, Howard Beach, NY) and Eric Hines, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, 6-1, Milltown, NJ) - Both hurled complete game, 3-hit shutouts at the CACC Tournament last week. Casal fanned seven batters in a 2-0 win over Philadelphia and Hines struck out 11 Dominican batters in the championship game victory.

Rookie of the Week: Jared Farbman, Philadelphia (Fr., RHP, 6-4, Philadelphia, PA) - Threw a complete game shutout against Felician in his first CACC Tournament appearance on Thursday. He allowed only five hits and fanned 10 batters.
