West Haven, CT - The sixth-seeded Dominican College baseball team was eliminated from the 2010 NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament Friday after falling to the fifth-seeded Pioneers of C.W. Post University, 4-1 in a game played at Yale Field.
The Chargers scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning as junior left fielder Sean Burke (Bronx, NY) led off the game with a single to center field. After stealing second to get into scoring position, he moved to third on the groundout to second by senior Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY). Shortstop Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) hit a ground ball to short which allowed Burke to score and give DC a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers went on to score three runs in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 3-1 as back-to-back hit batsmen allowed a run to come in and a two-out single through the left side accounted for the other runs.
C.W. Post added a run in the seventh on another two-out single through the left side for the eventual 4-1 victory.
DC struggled offensively tallying just four hits for the game.
Charger starter Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) allowed four runs on 10 hits and recorded 10 strikeouts in eight innings of work. Sophomore Dustin Javins (Ocoee, FL) came in to pitch the ninth.
The loss eliminated Dominican from the East Regional Tournament and ends its season with a 28-18 record.
