NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Mario Lopez of Dominican College has been selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for his performance during the CACC Tournament. Post University's Tim Sirois was named Pitcher of the Week and Dominican's Tony Blake was the pick for Rookie of the Week.
Lopez, a junior 2B from Anthony, New Mexico, was named MVP of the CACC Tournament after helping lead the Chargers to the title with a win over Post. He hit .380 for the tournament and recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a 4-for-5, two-run, one-RBI performance in a win over Post on Friday to put the Chargers into the championship round.
Sirois, a junior right-hander from Cheshire, Conn., picked up two wins at the CACC Tournament and sported a 1.00 ERA. He threw a complete game shutout against Dominican in a 1-0 win that forced a second game on Saturday.
Blake, a freshman OF/DH from Windsor, Conn., hit .375 in his first CACC Tournament appearance with five runs batted in and three runs scored. He also collected three doubles and was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance.
Brendan Barry, Post (Jr., 3B, Franklin Square, NY) - Hit .520 in the CACC Tournament with five RBI and five runs scored.
Dave Bartuska, Dominican (So., RHP, Duryea, PA) - Had a 3.60 ERA in two appearances at the CACC Tournament. Started against Felician and hurled a complete game while allowing two earned runs and fanning eight.
