POST AND USCIENCES ADVANCE IN CACC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 10, 2011) – Post University and the University of the Sciences have advanced in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament after victories in Tuesday’s single-elimination round. The Eagles and Devils will now join top seed Dominican College and No. 2 Wilmington University for a double-elimination tournament in Wilmington on May 12-14.

Post (23-16), the No. 3 seed, advances to face No. 2 Wilmington after a thrilling 8-7 win over No. 6 Chestnut Hill. James Wong delivered a walk-off, RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. The Eagles scored two runs with two outs in the inning to knock out the Griffins.

Wong brought Blair home on the very next play, wrapping another slow chopper to third and just beating out the throw at first base. Dan Steers pitched an inning of scoreless baseball to earn the win. Chestnut Hill ends the season with a 16-22 record.

Jesse Daywalt led CHC by going 3-for-4 with one run and three RBI, while Santoro drove in a pair of runs.

No. 5 USciences (14-20) will take on top seeded Dominican on Thursday at noon after earning an 8-5 win over No. 4 Caldwell in its first ever CACC Tournament appearance. The Devils scored five runs in the second inning and advanced despite issuing 12 walks in the game. Starter Dan McMahon improved to 7-2 with the win, allowing three hits, four runs and nine walks in 5.1 innings of work to go with eight strikeouts. Luke Peyton earned his first save of the season by working the final 3.2 innings and allowing one run and five hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Mark Perry and Kyle Davis each collected three hits on the day for USci, with Perry driving in two of his team’s five runs in the decisive second inning. Jeff Murtha added a two-run double in the stanza. Each of Usci’s nine starters had at least one hit as the team totaled 13 on the day. Shortstop Stephen Luczaj led Caldwell (16-25) by going 2-for-3 with a home run on the day.
