NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 1, 2011) –Wilmington University baseball standout Mike Godwin was recently named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Honorable Mention All-American for his performance this past season.
Godwin, a junior catcher from Hockessin, Del., was the CACC Player of the Year after hitting .355 with 23 extra base hits in 2011. A first-team All-Conference selection, he drove in 45 runs and scored 32 times while leading the league in doubles (20), RBI, and finishing second in the conference in batting average. Godwin helped lead the Wildcats to the 2011 CACC Championship and was named tournament MVP.
Godwin was awarded First Team NCBWA and Second Team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region honors in May. He becomes the fourth Wildcat from the baseball program to be awarded All-American accolades since Wilmington made the move to the NCAA in the fall of 2003.
His efforts helped lead Wilmington to a 37-12 overall record, including a 15-5 mark in the CACC. The ‘Cats also earned a berth to the NCAA East Region Tournament.
