Felician Sweeps Baseball Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 28, 2012) - Felician's Mike Farrell (Lincroft, N.J.) and Kenny Monteith (Denville, N.J.) have been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively, for the period ending Feb. 26.

 

Nyack's John Kennedy (Plantation, Fla.) was recognized as the CACC Rookie of the Week.

 

CACC Player of the Week
Mike Farrell, Felician (Jr., 3B, 6-0, Lincroft, N.J.)

Posted a .357 batting average (8-of-28) over eight games last week.  Tallied a triple, five walks, six runs and three RBI while leading the Golden Falcons to a 4-4 mark to open the season.

 

CACC Pitcher of the Week
Kenny Monteith, Felician (Sr., RHP, 6-2, Denville, N.J.)

Tossed 7.2 shutout innings while scattering six hits and striking out nine en route to first win of season vs. No. 7 ranked Southern Connecticut (2/18).  Followed that with a 6.0 inning no decision vs. Stonehill which saw him strike out seven while allowing three runs and three hits.

 

CACC Rookie of the Week
John Kennedy, Nyack (Fr., OF, 5-9, Plantation, Fla.)
Posted an average of .571 (4-of-7) in first two collegiate games, both victories over St. Thomas Aquinas.  Also recorded two runs, a pair of stolen bases and an RBI over the two season-opening wins.

 

CACC Honorable Mention
Kevin Earlie, Nyack (Sr., RHP, 5-8, Moriches, N.Y.)
Tossed 7.0 innings while allowing three hits and one raned run in win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

 

David Lerro, Philadelphia (Sr., LHP, 6-2, Secane, Pa.)

Struck out seven while allowing four hits and one earned run in win over Dowling.

 

Jack Fowler, Felician (Fr., LHP, 5-9, Shrewsbury, N.J.)

Did not allow a run over three relief appearances while pitching a total of seven innings.  Also scored game-winning run as a pinch runner vs. Molloy (2/25).

 

CACC Baseball Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacons lost a pair of tough one-run decisions Sunday, losing 7-6 and 4-3 to non-conference opponent Pace University.  Senior first baseman Rafael Medina went 3-5 on the afternoon, smacking a pair of home runs in Game One while driving in four of the Deacons' nine runs on the afternoon.  Fellow senior Emilio Fernandez went 4-7 on the day, also stealing three bases on the afternoon.  Senior Edgardo Fernandez also picked up a pair of hits in three plate appearances, driving in two runs in Game Two.

Concordia - Concordia kicked off their 2012 season in Myrtle Beach, SC to play in four games this past weekend. The Clippers took on Southern NH (twice), C.W. Post and Stonehill. Concordia fell in all four games to begin the season with a 0-4 record. The Clipperwill next be in action on Sunday, March 4th when the team will be in Florida to play in nine games throughout the week. 

Felician - Junior OF Joe Petosa picked up his 100th career hit in Game 2 vs. Stonehill on Friday. Six of Felician's first eight games have come against teams ranked in the preseason East Region writers' poll, including a split with nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut on Feb. 18.

Philadelphia - The Rams went 1-2 in their opening weekend series against Dowling. After being swept on Saturday (8-2 and 10-4), Philadelphia rebounded to defeat the Golden Lions 4-2 on Sunday behind six strong innings from David Lerro. Lerro fanned seven hitters while scattering four hits and allowing two runs in his collegiate debut. Philadelphia heads to Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J. for a four-game weekend set against Southern Connecticut on March 3 and 4.

Post - Post opened the season 1-4 at the Northeast Challenge, and earned its win against #16 Franklin Pierce on Friday night. The Eagles will return to action on Friday, March 2, at St. Thomas Aquinas, before the squad heads to Florida for Spring Break. Post will play nine non-conference games in Clermont, Fla., from March 4-10.
