Bloomfield's Emilio Fernandez and Wilmington's Dave Hatt Claim CACC Weekly Baseball Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 6, 2012) - Bloomfield's Emilio Fernandez (player) and Wilmington's Dave Hatt (pitcher) have been named as the recipients of the CACC weekly honors for baseball, for the period ending March 4. Felician's Chet Godfrey was recognized as the CACC Baseball Rookie of the Week.
CACC Player of the Week
Emilio Fernandez, Bloomfield (Sr., OF, 6-1, Woodland Park, N.J.)
Posted a .524 batting average (11-of-21) over five games
last week. Tallied a home run, three doubles, six runs three RBI and three steals while leading the Deacons to a 2-3 record last week. Highlighted week with 3-of-4, three RBI effort in win over Queens (N.Y.) on March 5.
CACC Pitcher of the Week
Dave Hatt, Wilmington (Sr., RHP, 6-3, Toronto, Ont.)
Tossed 8.0 innings of shutout ball while allowing just a single hit in 1-0 win over Merrimack on March 4. Also posted three strikeouts without allowing a walk over the eight innings. He only faced one batter over the minimum over the eight innings.
CACC Rookie of the Week
Chet Godfrey, Felician (Fr., RHP, 5-11, Millville, N.J.)
Allowed three hits and no runs over six innings in a 2-1 loss vs. No. 19 Mercyhurst on March 2. Struck out four and hit a batter over his six shutout
innings in what was his first career collegiate start.
CACC Honorable Mention
Joe Harbach, Wilmington (Sr., OF/RHP, 6-3, Abingdon, Md.)
Posted an average of .455 (5-of-11) over Wilmington's 3-0 week. Notched a home run and two RBI. Also notched a save on March 4, while fanning a pair.
Rick Reigner, Philadelphia (So., OF, 5-11, Havertown, Pa.)
Posted a .300 (3-for-10) average over three games last week while adding 2 RBI.
JD Calabrese, Nyack (Sr., 1B, 6-3, Paramus, N.J.)
Went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in 7-3 win over Bloomfield on March 1.
Kevin Earlie, Nyack (Sr., RHP, 5-9, Moriches, N.Y.)
Tossed seven innings of one-hit, one-run ball while striking out five, in 7-3 win over Bloomfield (3/1) to record his second win of the season.
Stephen Corbett, Post (Sr., RHP, 6-2, Prospect, Conn.)
Earned the win while hurling 7.0 innings and striking out four while allowing seven hits and three runs vs. No. 16 Franklin Pierce.
CACC Baseball Team Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacons went 2-3 for the week, picking up victories over non-conference opponents American International College and Queens College. Senior outfielder Emilio Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) continued his brilliant start to the 2012 season by hitting .524 over the five-game span, belting a homer, three doubles and stealing three bases while leading the Deacons with one home run and six RBIs. Fellow senior Rafael Medina (Key Largo, Fl.) hit .389 for the week, totaling seven hits and five RBIs and driving in three runs in the club's victory over Queens College Sunday. Junior Jonattan Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) notched four hits to hit .333 for the week, finishing tied for the team lead with six runs scored over the stretch. The Deacons as a team hit .301 for the week, pounding out 16 hits in Sunday's 13-2 victory over Queens. Junior right-hander Luis Nova (Santo Domingo, D.R.) picked up the first victory of his Bloomfield career in the win over AIC, going six innings and allowing a single run to pick up the win.
Concordia - Concordia began their Florida Spring Trip on Sunday afternoon as they played a doubleheader against Southern NH. The Clippers have played the Penmen in four of their six games this season. This week, Concordia will play seven more games in the Sunshine State before returning home next Sunday.
Felician - Felician has already played five one-run games this season, going 2-3 in those contests.
Philadelphia - The Rams went 1-3 against #8 Southern Connecticut State over the weekend at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J. On Friday Philadelphia fell in game one 10-0 and rebounded with an eight-run sixth inning to defeat the Owls 9-6. The Rams dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Southern Connecticut, 8-1 and 6-1. Relief pitcher Russell Trojan earned his first win of the year after throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Rick Reigner and C.J. Wallowitch both had two hits in the win. This week Philadelphia will play four home games: Millersville (Tues.), Bloomsburg (Fri. and Sat.) and Franklin Pierce (Sat.).
Wilmington - The three-game sweep over Merrimack to start the season was the fourth consecutive year Wilmington started the season with at least three wins. The 2009 squad that went one to win the CACC Tournament Championship started 4-0. Totaling 27 innings pitched, the entire pitching staff recorded 25 strikeouts, seven hits, four walks, and three earned runs. The team ERA for the weekend was a measly 1.00. Starters Jamie Treml, Dave Hatt and Ryan Lally threw 20 innings, giving up four hits while striking out 18 batters and only allowing one walk. The bullpen did not give up a single run the entire weekend. At the plate, Mike Godwin recorded two of the three game-winning RBI's on the weekend, finishing 5-for-13 with two runs and two RBI.
