NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Wilmington University has been picked first in the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason baseball poll, which was voted by the 11 CACC head coaches. The Wildcats took 10 of the 11 first place votes with 120 points. Dominican College had just one first place vote and collected 105 points. Post University finished third and Felician College with fourth.
The Wildcats will look to win their fourth straight conference championship this season as in the past three years they have won two Conference Tournaments and one Regular Season Championship. Behind the plate for the Wildcats will be two-time Tournament MVP Mike Godwin who will be catching for fellow captain and All-Tournament outfielder and pitcher Joe Harbach.
Dominican College has plans to win their second straight regular season championship with hopes of sweeping the regular season and conference tournament as they have not been able to complete this since the 2006 season. Justin Moore and David Bartuska will be the senior pitching staff returning from the 2011 campaign. Their counterpart Christopher Gonzalez will lead the Chargers after batting a .304 average in 22 games last year.
The 2012 CACC Tournament will commence on Tuesday, May 8 with a pair of single-elimination games, with the No. 3 seed hosting No. 6 and the No. 4 seed welcoming the fifth seed. The winners of those two games, along with the top two seeds, will advance to a double-elimination tournament at Wilmington University on May 10-12.
