POST AND HOLY FAMILY EARN SPOTS IN CACC MEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Post University and Holy Family University advanced to the semi-final round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Tournament with quarter-final wins Tuesday afternoon. Post, the fourth seed for the tournament, upended No. 5 Wilmington University, 2-1, while No. 6 Holy Family won a thriller over No. 3 Bloomfield in a penalty kick shootout.

Post will move on to face top seeded Caldwell College in the first semifinal game on Thursday at 12:00 pm at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, near the campus of Chestnut Hill College. Caldwell and Post played to a 2-2 tie on October 23 in Waterbury. Post led the game 2-0 early in the second half on two goals from freshman Francis Eno, before Caldwell knotted the game with tallies from CACC Player of the Year Chad Bennett and freshman midfielder Kieran Bisland.

Holy Family will face No. 2 Dominican on Thursday at 2:30 pm at Plymouth Whitemarsh. Dominican earned a 4-1 win over Holy Family in their regular-season meeting back on Sept. 28th in Orangeburg. Junior midfielder James Hamilton led the charge for Dominican with two goals and one assist.

Bloomfield and Holy Family went to a penalty kick shootout after the game remained tied, 3-3, after regulation and two overtime periods. Holy Family jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of play before Bloomfield responded with the next two tallies. However, Holy Family retook the lead with a goal just 17 seconds after BC's game-tying goal, on a score by Tim Dugan in the 81st minute. Bloomfield forced overtime with another tally in the 89th minute.

Both Bloomfield and Holy Family converted their first four penalty kicks, and the Tigers scored again on their fifth try. Down 5-4, the fifth Bloomfield attempt went wide right, giving Holy Family the upset victory.

Wilmington took a 1-0 lead at Post and held that advantage through halftime and deep into the second half before Post mounted a comeback. The Eagles stormed back with two goals in the final six minutes to steal the victory away from the Wildcats. The game-winning score came off the foot of sophomore Frantzy Noze, with the assist being credited to Dean Robinson. Post out-shot Wilmington, 16-10.
