Goldey-Beacom in First Place in 2017-18 CACC Men's Sportsmanship Award Standings After Fall Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 6, 2017) -- Goldey-Beacom College sits in first place in the 2017-18 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Sportsmanship Award standings following the recently completed fall season. The announcement was made on Wednesday by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.

Goldey-Beacom was identified as the first-place school in the updated standings by the total number of sportsmanship votes the institution received over the course of the fall season in men's sports, divided by the total number of male sports sponsored. The Lightning posted an average score of 21.50, as two men's sports voted on during the fall included men's cross country and men's soccer. Nyack College, which won last year's men's sportsmanship award, is currently in second place in the standings with an average score of 17.50, while Felician University is in third with a mark of 14.50.

The Lightning men's cross country team claimed the 2017 CACC Sportsmanship Award at the conference's championship event back on Oct. 22 in Newark, Del., while G-B's men's soccer team finished second in the voting for that sport's respective sportsmanship award.

Nyack's second-place effort through the fall was supported by the school's men's soccer team claiming the sportsmanship award in the sport, while men's cross country tied for third in the voting for that sport's honor. Felician men's cross country placed second in the voting for their sportsmanship award, while men's soccer placed fourth in its voting.

Each sport's team sportsmanship award is voted on by the league's head coaches in their respective sport. Head coaches speak with their student-athletes prior to voting to gain feedback on which opposing teams demonstrated outstanding class and character throughout the season.
