WilmU's Tasca & Stone Earn First-Team Honors as 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Teams Announced

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 27, 2018) -- Wilmington University's Vinny Tasca and Will Stone earned first-team all-region honors on Tuesday, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches, the national organization of collegiate head coaches. Tasca and Stone were two of nine Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer standouts to earn USC All-East Region honors.

Tasca led the CACC in numerous categories this season, as he was named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Year, while also locking up honors on the All-CACC First Team. He ranked first in the league in goals against average (0.92), wins (15) and shutouts (7). Overall, Tasca went 15-3-4 this season with the under-one GAA and a .738 save percentage.

Stone posted 12 goals and 14 assists for 38 points this season. He ranked second in the CACC in assists, points and shots (63), while ranking fourth in markers. Stone started all 22 matches for the Wildcats, as they claimed the CACC Regular Season Championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The other seven CACC standouts to earn USC All-East Region honors on Tuesday included Sergio Diaz (Post University) and Tom Garratt (WilmU) on the second team, and Jonathan Firmino (Georgian Court University), Elliott Johnson (WilmU), Jason Rocha (Jefferson), Louis Silva (Georgian Court) and Alvaro Sanchez (Post) on the third team.

Diaz was named the CACC Player of the Year after leading the league in assists (18) and points (44), while tying for second with 13 goals.

Garratt earned First-Team All-CACC honors after he posted 12 goals, 13 assists and 37 points. He led the CACC with six game-winning goals.

Firmino earned first-team all-conference honors after he anchored one of the top back lines in the region, while also popping in four goals on the offensive end.

Johnson was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year, as he helped the Wildcats post seven shutouts on the season.

Rocha locked up First-Team All-CACC honors after ranking second in the league with 13 goals.

Silva collected second-team honors after posting eight goals and four assists for 20 points.

Sanchez received first-team all-league accolades, as he notched 11 goals and one helper for 23 points.

The nominating and voting for the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams was conducted by the head coaches throughout the East Region in Division II. All head coaches must be dues paying members of the association.
