Wilmington Tops the 2018 CACC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 7, 2018) -- Wilmington University was picked first in the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Tuesday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats earned 149 points, including one first-place vote, as the voting for the preseason poll was conducted by league's 13 head coaches in the sport.

Wilmington finished third in the league last season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 CACC Championship. The Wildcats have traditionally been among the strongest teams in both the conference and East Region under the guidance of head coach Nick Papanicolas.

Rounding out the top-three teams in standings were Jefferson (2nd, 148 pts, 3 1st-place votes) and Goldey-Beacom College (3rd, 147, 8 1st-place votes). Both Jefferson and Goldey-Beacom met up in last season's CACC Championship Final, which was won by the Lightning in overtime. The win propelled G-B to a victory in the first round of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. Jefferson claimed the CACC's regular season title in 2017.
