PHILADELPHIA'S SULLIVAN TABBED WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NEW HAVEN, CT  (April 22, 2009) - Philadelphia University goal keeper Katherine Sullivan has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year, as balloting for the All-Conference team was released today. The conferences six head coaches conducted the voting. Dominican College freshman Aubree Williams was tabbed Rookie of the Year and Holy Family University head coach Meagan DiCave was voted Coach of the Year. The annual Team Sportsmanship Award was given to both Holy Family and Dominican.

Only six seniors were named to the first or second team out of 25 total selections, which is a testament to the youth of the conference, which is sponsoring the sport for the first time this season.

Sullivan's Player of the Year and first team All-CACC distinctions came as her Lady Rams recorded a 7-2 record while the New Jersey native was in goal.  She ranks seventh in the nation in save percentage (third in the CACC) with a .511 average.  Sullivan also ranks 10th in the NCAA in saves per-game with 11.93 (fifth in the CACC) and stands third in the CACC in goals-against average (11.44). Sullivan stopped 25 shots against Wilmington on March 17, which tied her for most saves in a single game in the conference this season.

Williams emerged as one of the top scorers in the CACC during her freshman campaign and currently ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 3.50 goals per-game, fifth with 1.25 assists per-game and fourth with 4.75 points per-game. Williams, who hails from Great Meadows, NJ, netted a season-best seven goals versus Chestnut Hill on March 24.

Georgian Court, the CACC regular-season champion, led they way with four first team picks, including defender Angelica Gero, midfielders Natalie Bermudez and Lauren Conaty and forward Ryan McGrath. The Lions also had four players earn second team status, along with two honorable mentions.
