McCALLA AND DiGIOVANNI EARN WOMEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY HONORS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Bridgitte McCalla of Concordia College has earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors for the first week of the season. Carly DiGiovanni of Chestnut Hill College was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
McCalla, a 5-6 freshman forward from Jamaica, N.Y., tallied three goals in the opening week of the season for the Clippers. She netted a pair of goals in a season-opening win over St. Thomas Aquinas and she also found the back of the net against Le Moyne.
DiGiovanni, a 5-8 freshman midfielder from Seaville, N.J., recorded one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win over Millersville to register her first collegiate points. She assisted on the game-winning goal.
Honorable Mention
Jerrica Lavooy, Bloomfield (Sr., M, 5-5, Sussex, NJ) - Scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over NYIT.
Rachel Romanowsk, Dominican (So., D, 5-10, Lacey Twp., NJ) - Netted the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over New Haven.
Trisha Sileo, Philadelphia (So., F, 5-5, Islip, NY) - Scored the team’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Adelphi.
Jessica Veazey, Chestnut Hill (So., GK, 5-10, Middletown, DE) - Registered 11 saves in two games and shut out Millersville.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield - The Lady Deacons won their opening match of the 2010 campaign Wednesday, September 2, giving first-year head coach Katie Egan her first career victory. The 3-2 win over NYIT saw Bloomfield utilize three different goal scorers. Junior Christine Rutherford put the Lady Deacons on the board with a goal in the 36th minute, knotting the score at 1-1. After an NYIT goal in the second half put the Bears up 2-1, Bloomfield’s senior captains came through with a goal apiece to give the club the come-from-behind win. Erika Len connected on a header off a corner kick from freshman Mikie Bradley, evening the score at 2-2, and Jerrica Lavooy came off the bench to provide the game-winner in the 77th minute to move the Lady Deacons to 1-0.
Felician - Sophomore M Jenn Hesse and freshman M Kirsten Mortelliti each scored their first career goals during the Franklin Pierce Classic over the weekend, with Hesse’s coming against the No. 11-ranked Ravens. Felician was tied with FPU, 2-2 at halftime of an eventual 6-2 loss.
Georgian Court - GCU hosts Dowling College on Wednesday at 4PM and takes to the road on Saturday for its first CACC match of the season in a 6PM contest at Felician College.
Philadelphia - The Rams went into double vertime (PhilaU did that five times in 2009) to start things off this season, picking up a 1-1 tie vs. Adelphi University. Sophomore Trisha Sileo, who led her squad with 14 scores last year, notched the goal for the Lady Rams, assisted by rookie midfielder Janine Cascio. The inaugural game was also PhilaU’s first-ever fall sport webcast.
Post - Post came up with two losses in its first road games of the season against Pace University and the University of New Haven. The Eagles will play a road conference game against Nyack on the 8th, a team Post defeated at home, 3-1, last season.
