Post's Katharina Mertz Named CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American

WATERBURY, Conn. (December 6, 2017) – Senior captain Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) of the Post University women’s soccer team was named D2CCA Second Team All-East Region on Wednesday. The senior has also received All-CACC and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this season.

Mertz led the Eagles and was sixth in the conference with eight goals to go with one assist. She scored the game-winner in victories over Nyack and Chestnut Hill and also made three penalty kicks. Mertz scored in four of the last six games heading into the CACC Tournament.

She finished her career fourth all-time at Post with 27 career goals and 63 points. Her 11 game-winning goals put her first-place all-time. During the 2015 season, Mertz scored a career-best 11 goals and three assists and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and First Team All-ECAC honors. She has also excelled in the classroom and has been named to the CACC All-Academic Team three times.

The Eagles finished the season at 6-12 overall and 6-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. Post fell in overtime to Wilmington 2-1 in the first round of the CACC Tournament.
