GEORGIAN COURT AND PHILADELPHIA SET TO MEET FOR CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Georgian Court University and Philadelphia University are set to meet for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon in Lakewood, NJ, at the GCU Wellness Center. GCU disposed of Bloomfield College, 3-0, in tonight's first semi-final match, while the Lady Rams upended Caldwell College, 3-1. The championship game is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday.

Georgian Court (30-4), the South Division's top seed, will be attempting to win its third consecutive CACC Championship and with it an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA East Region Tournament. Junior Stephanie Rivera, a member of the All-CACC first team, smashed a team-high 13 kills in 20 total attacks without an error, resulting in the second-highest hitting percentage (.650) in CACC Tournament history. Rivera also owns the record (.818, 9 kills, 11 attempts), which she set against Post University in the semifinals of the 2007 tournament. CACC Player of the Year, Angie Casado, contributed 11 kills of her own along with a team-high 11 digs. Junior setter Lisamary Figueroa distributed a game-high 38 assists. The Lions won by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 20-8.

Sophomore Jussara Oliviera led a Bloomfield (15-15) offense that really struggled (10 total kills, .032 hitting percentage) with four kills.

Philadelphia (21-12) advanced to the championship game as the South Division's No. 3 seed, as they topped Caldwell, which was the top seed in the North Division. Caldwell (18-11) took the first set, but Philadelphia rallied to take the next three, including a highly competitive fourth set, which saw Caldwell really to tie the score at 23 after being down, 23-16. However, Philadelphia took the final two points to advance to its first tournament championship game since 2006. Scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Katie Miller led the Lady Rams with a double-double consisting of 10 kills and 23 digs, while classmate Molly Malone added a team-best 11 kills, seven blocks and five digs. She posted a match-high four block solos.

Sophomore Keesha Francois led the Cougars with 11 kills, three digs and three blocks, while freshman Amber Mosher added seven kills and 11 digs.

Georgian Court swept Philadelphia in their two regular-season meetings in 2008, 3-0 in Philadelphia on Sept. 23 and 3-1 at home on Oct. 7.
