NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 30, 2012) – Two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) student-athletes earned 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Honors. Post University's Joe Baccielo (Stratford, CT) and Felician College's Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England) earned Second Team and Third Teams honors as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA).
In order to qualify for Academic All-American status, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution and be nominated by the school's sports information director. Additionally, the student-athlete must have been named First Team Academic All-District.
Post University junior forward, Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.), earned Capital One Academic All-America Division II Second Team honors. Baccielo, the 2012 CACC Player of the Year, is the first Academic All-American in school history and was also named as the Daktronics NCAA Division II East Region Co-Player of the year.
The junior marketing major finished the season ranked 2nd in the CACC in goals (15) and 2nd in points (38). Nationally, Baccielo ranked 11th in total points (38) and total goals (15), 21st in points per game (1.73) 28th in total assists (eight), and 32nd in goals per game (0.68).
Felician College sophomore Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England) earned 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Third Team honors in his first year eligible for the award. Onyeaka is the fifth Academic All-American in the 17-year history of Felician athletics and is the first Golden Falcon men's soccer player to have earned the award.
The 6'3 accounting major started in 17 games for Felician this season. As a defender, the Birmingham native led his team in Goals (4) and points (8). Onyeaka was also was credited with a game-winning goal on his only goal outside of CACC action.
