PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 19, 2015) -- The Concordia College men's tennis team claimed the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa. The top-seeded Clippers improved to 18-4, while the second-seeded Griffins fell to 15-9.
Concordia claimed its sixth-consecutive conference title and was led by Benas Majauskas, who claimed his second-straight most-valuable-player award for the championship, as he went 3-0 (1-0 singles, 2-0 doubles) over the two days, including teaming up with Lorenzo Montegiorgi to win at No. 2 doubles on Sunday by a count of 8-2. Majauskas was leading his singles match versus Michael Humes by a score of 6-0, 4-3, but it was halted when teammate Ofir Ginat capped the race to five with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Pedro Oranges at No. 6 singles.
Ginat, who joined Majauskas on the CACC All-Tournament Team, helped the Clippers get off to a perfect 3-for-3 start in doubles play, as he teammed with Jui Mao at No. 1 to pick up an 8-3 triumph over Pedro Regalin and Lucas Bocaletto. The other doubles victory for the Clippers came from Juuso Ojanen and Rafael Ferreira, who earned Concordia's first point of the day with an 8-2 win over Jonathan Ducretot and Henry Boyle.
Ferreira was the first Clipper to claim a singles win, as he made it 4-0 in the team score when he picked off Ducretot at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. Ferreira and Ojanen were the other two Clippers to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
The Chestnut Hill duo of Boyle and Ducretot were placed on the all-tournament team as well, as they teammed up for a doubles victory in Saturday's semifinal win over Post University. Both men also went on to win their singles matches in the contest to propel the Griffins to Championship Sunday.
Concordia, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings, locked up the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament, which will be held later this month at a site to be determined. Chestnut Hill will wait to hear if it earned an at-large berth to the national tournament.
