NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 4, 2024) – Thomas Jefferson University head coach Dave Thomas has been selected as the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year, CACC Commissioner Dan Mara announced today. Mara also released that Chestnut Hill College has been named the 2024 winner of the Anne Jackson Memorial CACC Women’s Cross-Country Team Sportsmanship Award.
Thomas was voted the Coach of the Year by the conference’s directors of athletics communications. He led this year’s Jefferson team to the CACC championship, the program’s second in a row, seventh in the last eight years, and 14th all-time. The Rams placed seven runners on the 2024 all-conference team.
Thomas is the CACC Coach of the Year on the women’s side for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. It is the 11th such award of his career, extending his own conference record. He has also been selected as the league’s Men’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year on four occasions.
The annual Team Sportsmanship Award is selected by the league’s head coaches. Jackson is a former Nyack College women’s cross-country standout who passed away suddenly and prematurely on November 17, 2010. The award has since carried her name to memorialize her courage, strength and sportsmanship.
The voting illustrated the coaches’ belief that head coach Ashley Johnson’s Chestnut Hill team demonstrated outstanding class, character and sportsmanship throughout the 2024 season. The Griffins win the award for the second year in a row.
Wilmington and Chestnut Hill are scheduled to take part in the 2024 NCAA Division II East Regional Championship race on November 9 in Rochester, N.Y.
