WILMINGTON, Del. (October 19, 2025) – Wilmington University is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women’s tennis champion for the fifth consecutive year. Wilmington, the No. 2 seed and host of the 2025 CACC Championship tournament, claimed this year’s title with a 4-2 final-match victory over top seed and previously-undefeated Thomas Jefferson University on Sunday afternoon at Delcastle Tennis Center.
Wilmington (10-2) receives an automatic berth into the 2026 NCAA Division II East Regional Championship Tournament. That event is scheduled for early May.
Jefferson (13-1) got off to a quick start. The Rams’ No. 2 doubles duo of Marta Vazquez and Emily Frost took a 6-0 victory. Shortly thereafter, Jefferson’s Anouk Oderkerk and Alycia Veroux won, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot to give the Rams the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Wilmington, however, moved ahead to stay with straight-sets singles victories by sophomore Molly Carlberg at No. 3 and Kayla Chen at No. 4. The match then swung at the No. 1 spot. Wildcat sophomore Siana MacDonald, the CACC regular-season co-Player of the Year, came back from a set down for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
Wilmington’s celebration was delayed when the Rams’ Rose Huang extended her match at No. 6 with a second-set tiebreak victory and Vazquez followed with a three-set win at No. 5. But shortly after Vazquez’s 2 ½ hour match was done, the Wildcats became champions when the match at flight No. 2 ended in victory for sophomore Liza Sylka.
MacDonald, who was also part of a doubles victory as Wilmington defeated No. 3 seed Goldey-Beacom College during Saturday’s semifinals, was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Teammates Carlberg, Chen, and Sylka joined MacDonald on the All-Tournament Team. Jefferson’s Oderkerk and Vazquez were All-Tournament selections as well.
Frost, a senior at Jefferson, is the winner of the 2025 CACC Women’s Tennis Top XVI Award, presented to the student-athlete at the championship site with the highest grade-point average and at least 48 credits earned at her current institution.
