Wilmington, GCU Debut in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament

Both CACC Representatives Drop First-Round Games

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 7, 2024) – Wilmington University and Georgian Court University became the first two schools representing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to compete in the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday. Wilmington was defeated by Seton Hill University, 15-7, while Georgian Court fell to Adelphi University, 23-9.

Georgian Court, the 2025 CACC champion, gained the conference’s inaugural automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament and was playing on Wednesday as the No. 8 seed in the North Region. Wilmington was selected for an at-large berth and was the North’s No. 6 seed.

In Greensburg, Pa., Wilmington scored the first two goals of its matchup with Seton Hill, the North’s No. 3 seed and the No. 3-ranked team in the most recent national Division II poll. But the Griffins answered with the next six scores and never trailed again. A late third-period goal by CACC Player of the Year Andrew Dzubak pulled the Wildcats to within 10-7, but Wilmington could not find the cage during the fourth. Kyle Parker and Carter Earl had three points each and Tyler Quinn picked up eight ground balls for the Wildcats (11-5).

Later Wednesday, a slow start proved costly to Georgian Court in Garden City, N.Y. Adelphi produced five goals in the game’s first four minutes, and led, 14-0, early in the second period. Matt Dorian finished with three goals and an assist and Doug Mackenzie and James Sanford scored twice each for the Lions (12-7). Adelphi is the top seed in the North and the nation’s No. 2-ranked D-II squad.

Seton Hill (18-1) will travel to Saint Anselm College and Adelphi (16-1) will host Molloy University during the national quarterfinals on Sunday.
