WATERBURY, Conn. (June 12, 2025) -- Sophomore midfielder
Gabe Roman is coming off his first season with Post University Men's Lacrosse and now will be headed to Jeju Island in Korea this August for the World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship, representing his home country in the Puerto Rican National Team, as he earned a spot on their roster, which was recently announced by the organization.
Roman, who transferred to Post after one season with Eastern Connecticut State University, played in 15 games for the Eagles this spring in which he tallied six goals and six assists off the bench for 12 points, while scoring on 38.3% of his shots on goal. The second-year player also scored one on the man-up advantage as well as collected six ground balls. In his freshman season as a Warrior, he was a seven-goal scorer to go along with three assists for 10 total points, scoring on 78.9% on his shots on goal, while having two man-up goals, two ground balls, and one caused turnover across 12 games.
But none of this just happened with the flip of a switch for Roman. It all started when he was just 13 years old when he began to play for the Puerto Rican Development Teams, following that path at the U13, U15, and U19 levels, before trying out in May 2024 for the U20 Puerto Rican National Team. Being named to the team, Roman just finished up his second training camp a couple of weeks ago with the program as the World Championship is set to get underway in a little over two months from now on August 15th until its conclusion on August 24th.
Speaking on being a part of the team this August, Roman said, "It means a lot to me to be able to represent my heritage on the national stage. I am beyond grateful to be in the position to do so. I think it is a big step in growing the game not only in Puerto Rico but around the world. I'm looking forward to going to the World Championships with my teammates and showing the world what Puerto Rico Lacrosse is all about and hopefully inspiring kids from the island to represent their heritage through the sport of lacrosse."
The entire Men's U20 Championship field is represented by Australia, Canada, China, England, Germany, Ghana, Haudenosaunee, Hong Kong (China), Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, the United States, and Puerto Rico.
