Wilmington's First NCAA Women's Lacrosse Run Ends

Wildcats Topped by Adelphi, 15-11, in Second Round

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (May 10, 2026) – East Region No. 4 seed Wilmington University was defeated by No. 1 seed and host Adelphi University, 15-11, during the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field. Wilmington, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion, concludes the 2026 season with a won-lost record of 19-3.

Adelphi (14-4) moved ahead to stay by breaking a 2-2 tie with four consecutive first-period goals. The Panthers were ahead, 11-6, at halftime, and the closest Wilmington came thereafter was a three-goal deficit on two occasions in the fourth period. Adelphi was keyed by a 22-6 advantage in draw controls. The Panthers are ranked No. 11 and Wilmington No. 25 in the most recent national Division II coaches poll.

CACC Player of the Year Ella Royer finished a record-setting career with four goals and two assists for the Wildcats. Teammate Kirra Crowley had four goals and one assist. The Wildcats were making the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance.

Adelphi hosts No. 2 seed Pace University in the East Region final next weekend.

 

Founded in 1961, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has been affiliated with NCAA Division II for 20 years. Conference institutions compete for championships in 17 sports – seven for men, nine for women, and one co-ed. The CACC contains 11 full members in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Membership includes the University of Bridgeport, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Dominican University New York, Felician University, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Post University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Wilmington University.
