Delaware Teams Advance, Felician Avoids Elimination, in CACC Baseball Championship

Tournament Continues on Friday After Trio of Close Contests

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 8, 2026) – A closely contested opening day of the four-team, double-elimination final round of the 2026 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Championship tournament saw both Delaware schools in the field – Wilmington University and Goldey-Beacom College – advance to the winners’ bracket final. Late Thursday night, Felician University won an elimination game to also moved on in the tournament.

The event is being hosted by Post University at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. Tournament information is available at the CACC Championship Central web page at https://caccathletics.org/tournaments/?id=32.

On Friday, No. 1 seed Wilmington and No. 2 seed Goldey-Beacom will meet at 11 a.m. with the winner earning a date in Saturday’s championship round. The loser of that game will take on No. 4 seed Felician at 1:30 p.m. for the other spot in Saturday’s final.

After a two-hour weather delay, Wilmington opened the action on Thursday with a 6-5 victory over Felician. Goldey-Beacom then earned an 8-6 win over No. 3 seed Thomas Jefferson University before Felician returned to eliminate Jefferson, 7-5.

Saturday’s championship round begins at 11 a.m. Should the team that emerges from the elimination bracket win, a second game would immediately follow. The winner of the 2026 CACC Baseball Championship will earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division II East Region Championship tournament.

Tickets for each day of the 2026 CACC Baseball Championship are $10 for adults, and $5 for children, senior citizens (65+) and students with valid identification. No. 1 WILMINGTON 6, No. 4 FELICIAN 5
A ninth-inning rally fell a run short for Felician, which fell behind, 4-0, after three frames. Wildcat pitchers Chase Fleming and CACC Pitcher of the Year Scott Borgmann combined to strike out 15 Golden Falcon hitters. Wilmington’s Brett Walmsley and Zach Frame drove in two runs apiece. Luis De La Cruz was 3 for 5 for Felician. Wilmington improved to 37-15.

No. 2 GOLDEY-BEACOM 8, No. 3 JEFFERSON 6
A walk-off two-run home run by Kaden Barmer capped the Lightning’s comeback from a 6-2, eighth-inning deficit. Trailing, 2-1, the Rams plated five runs in the top of the eighth. GBC (32-20) answered with three in the bottom half, then tied the game in the ninth on Shawn Roy’s RBI single ahead of Barmer’s blast.  The Lightning’s Zach Smethers was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI. Andrew Holub homered and Justin Tiburcio was 4 for 5 for the Rams.

No. 4 FELICIAN  7, No. 3 JEFFERSON 5
The Golden Falcons (33-20) fell behind, 5-0, after three innings but chipped away. Antonio Sansone and Andrew Gendi combined for 6 1/3 innings of shutout relief, with Gendi striking out nine batters over the last 4 1/3. Felician’s Luis De La Cruz was 3 for 4 with a home run. Luis Beato Mora had two hits and scored twice for the Rams (24-22).

Founded in 1961, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has been affiliated with NCAA Division II for 20 years. Conference institutions compete for championships in 17 sports – seven for men, nine for women, and one co-ed. The CACC contains 11 full members in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
