Wilmington, GCU Reach CACC Men's Lacrosse Final

Overtime Lion Goal Ends Chestnut Hill's Four-Year Championship Run

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 1, 2025) – No. 1 seed Wilmington University and No. 2 seed Georgian Court University earned home victories on Wednesday during the semifinal round of the 2025 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship tournament. Wilmington and Georgian Court will meet in the championship final on Saturday at noon at O’Brien Field in Orangeburg, N.Y. The game will be hosted by Dominican University New York.

The Wildcats defeated No. 4 seed Post University, 25-10, on Wednesday in Newark, Del. The Lions got past No. 3 seed Chestnut Hill College, 13-12, in overtime, in Lakewood, N.J., ending the Griffins’ streaks of four consecutive CACC titles and six straight finals appearances. The winner of Saturday’s game not only earns this year’s conference championship but will claim the CACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division II North Region Championship tournament.

Wilmington will be seeking its first CACC championship. Georgian Court will be playing for the program’s third conference title and first since 2019. The teams are meeting in the final for the first time. The Wildcats defeated GCU, 16-10, in this year’s regular-season meeting on April 12 in Lakewood.

Tickets for the championship final of the 2025 CACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship are $10 for adults, and $5 for children, senior citizens (65+) and students with valid identification. No. 1 WILMINGTON 25, NO. 4 POST 10
The Wildcats (11-3) took an early 6-1 lead and extended to 15-5 by halftime. Josh Weston led a balanced Wilmington attack with five goals. Josh Lovely produced four goals and two assists and Andrew Dzubak added three goals and two assists. Connor Widmer was 20 for 25 on faceoffs. Leighton Cooke led the Eagles (9-7) with five goals.

No. 2 GEORGIAN COURT 13, No. 3 CHESTNUT HILL 12 (OT)
Senior Millan Webster scored on the first possession of overtime to propel the Lions to the final. The Griffins had tallied twice during the final 40 seconds of regulation, including a goal by Mick Kilgallon with four seconds left, to force extra time. Brett Bridges topped GCU (11-6) with four goals and two assists and Joe Zerr had three goals. Austin Derx scored four goals and Adam Daley made 16 saves for CHC (7-6).

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its affiliation with NCAA Division II. Conference institutions compete for championships in 18 sports – eight for men, nine for women, and one co-ed. The CACC contains 12 members in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Membership includes Bloomfield College of Montclair State University, the University of Bridgeport, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Dominican University New York, Felician University, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Post University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Wilmington University.
