Spartan Sophomore Breaks Free of Opening-Round Leading Trio; Final Round Thursday

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (October 7, 2026) – St. Thomas Aquinas College sophomore Conor McKenna took sole possession of the lead after Round 2 on Wednesday of the 2026-27 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Championship tournament. The event is being hosted by Thomas Jefferson University Tuesday through Thursday at Jeffersonville Golf Club.

McKenna was one of a trio of players that shared the lead after Tuesday’s first round. He followed his opening 71 with a 72 on Wednesday, making three birdies and five bogeys on the par-70, 6,443-yard course. He maintains a one-shot edge over Chestnut Hill College junior Hugo Almeida, who carded a 73 on Wednesday after also starting the tournament with a round of 71.

The CACC Championship is a 54-hole tournament. The third and final round begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday. Live results and live video links are available on the Championship Central page.

St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore Max Gibbs authored the best round of the day and of the tournament with a 67. That effort allowed him to move 17 spots up the leaderboard into fourth place.

The top five players at the conclusion of the event will be named to the CACC All-Tournament Team. Following McKenna (143, +3) and Almeida (144, +4) in the top five after round two are a pair of STAC players, sophomore J.D. Ambrose (145, +5) and Gibbs (146, +6). Sophomores Sebastian Ramos of Wilmington University and Alvaro Rogado of Felician University are tied for fifth, each with a two-day total of 147 (+7).

STAC is in first place in the team standings with two-day score of 578, 24 strokes ahead of Felician in the seven-team field. The Spartans are new associate members of the CACC for men’s golf after having been full members of the conference from 1965-99.

 

Founded in 1961, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has been affiliated with NCAA Division II for 21 years. Conference institutions compete for championships in 18 sports – seven for men, 10 for women, and one co-ed. The CACC contains 11 full members in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Membership includes the University of Bridgeport, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Dominican University New York, Felician University, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Post University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Wilmington University.
