NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 5, 2024) -- The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Thursday announced its Hall of Fame Class of 2024, which includes four individuals and one team. The announcement was made by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara, as the conference will recognize the honorees throughout the 2024-25 academic year with various on-campus events or at league championship sites.
The four individuals include Gage Daye (Bloomfield College Men's Basketball Student-Athlete), Sherry Keech Coulter (Georgian Court University Softball & Volleyball Student-Athlete), Brian Mackey (Dominican University Men's Golf Student-Athlete) and Neil Tarangioli (Concordia College Tennis Coach). That group will be joined by the 2013 Wilmington University Men's Cross Country team to be inducted into the Hall.
"The CACC is proud to induct these worthy honorees into the conference's Hall of Fame," Commissioner Mara said. "The Class of '24 features four individuals and a cross country team that brought success with honor to the conference. We look forward to taking part in the official induction ceremonies throughout the upcoming athletic season."
GAGE DAYE (Bloomfield Men's Basketball)
Daye, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Bears' men's basketball program, was a standout student-athlete for the team. A 2012 graduate of the school, Daye helped guide Bloomfield to the 2011 NCAA Division II East Region Championship and a spot in the Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass. Daye's playing career featured several notable highlights as he was a two-time CACC Player of the Year and Met Writers Players of the Year (2010 & 2011). He was an all-American in 2011 and was tabbed the most valuable player of the 2011 East Region tournament. He graduated as the school's leading scorer with 2,518 points. He led Bloomfield to multiple conference titles. Daye signed with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Developmental League following his collegiate career and played professionally overseas as well. He established a scholarship at Bloomfield in 2017 which was designed for students hailing from Newark, N.J. A Newark native himself, Daye is committed to assisting needy students hailing from New Jersey's largest city through his personal philanthropy.
SHERRY KEECH COULTER (Georgian Court Softball & Volleyball)
One of the most successful pitchers in GCU softball history, Keech Coulter played a vital role in leading the Lions into the era of NCAA Division II competition. The 2005 CACC Pitcher of the Year places among the top-five in every major pitching category in the Georgian Court record book. She was a two-time All-CACC First-Team honoree in the sport in 2004 and 2005. Keech Coulter was also an original member of the reincarnated GCU volleyball squad where she earned three All-CACC First-Team selections (2003-05). She collected 1,062 kills during her stelllar career. Keech Coulter earned national recognition by being selected as a 2005 Division II Sportsmanship Award recipient.
BRIAN MACKEY (Dominican Men's Golf)
Mackey became the first person in Dominican Athletics history to qualify for an NCAA Division II National Championship competition when he won the individual title in a playoff at the 2008 East Region Championship at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Del. Mackey rolled in a 75-foot putt to force a playoff for the individual title and then won on the first extra hole. He went on to earn PING All-Region and All-America honors that season as well. Mackey was an All-CACC performer each of his four seasons at Dominican and advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament all four years as well. His outstanding play each year at the NCAA regional enabled him to earn a trio of all-region honors. Mackey not only represented the conference in fine fashion as a student-athlete, but also following his graduation from Dominican. He tied for eighth out of 360 competitors at the 2019 PGA Professionals' Championship and qualifed for that year's PGA Championship -- one of the game's four major championships.
NEIL TARANGIOLI (Concordia Men's & Women's Tennis)
Tarangioli was an award-winning leader as he won more than 500 career matches as Concordia's tennis coach. From the 2009-10 season through the 2015-16 campaign (7 consecutive seasons), Tarangioli led Concordia to a sweep of both the men’s and women’s CACC titles (14 straight conference titles during that span). The Concordia men’s and women’s teams combined to win 19 CACC Championships in the 21 conference tournaments they competed in. Tarangioli led both the men’s and women’s programs to numerous NCAA Division II East Region titles and trips to the national tournament, including guiding the men’s team to the 2010 NCAA Division II National Semifinals. Concordia teams combined to earn the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament more than 10 times. Tarangioli won more than five ITA Division II East Region Coach of the Year Awards and was named a conference coach of the year more than 20 times (combined CACC/ECC/NYCAC).
2013 WILMINGTON MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The 2013 Wildcats became the first cross country team in the NCAA era to sweep the CACC Championship individual standings -- going first through fifth place -- to earn the lowest possible score at a meet with 15 team points. That performance carried over into the NCAA East Region Championship as WilmU finished third to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Back at the CACC Championship, all seven Wildcat runners placed among the top 15 to earn all-conference status. Wilmington swept the CACC Runner of the Year (Richie Mitten, 1st Place @ CACC), Rookie of the Year (Ken Fontal, 5th Place @ CACC) and Coach of the Year awards (Keith Jones). The other five Wildcat runners to earn All-CACC status by finishing among the top 15 included Jesus Amezquita (2nd place); Tyler Muse (3rd place); Mike O'Brien (4th place); Marshall Hawkins (10th place); and Matt Mossman (14th place). Mitten, Amezquita and O'Brien finished sixth, 12th and 25th, respectively, at the NCAA regional to earn All-East Region honors. The Wildcats won three meets overall during the 2013 campaign.
